WHO WE ARE

Sawa Design Studio LLC is a full service design studio with locations in Sarasota, Florida and Nairobi, Kenya, devoted to providing innovative design solutions for residential, commercial and hospitality projects. The Sawa Design team takes a collective approach to exploring design concepts and developing creative solutions for our clients’ environments. Our team is committed to working closely with the client on each project, from initial concept to final construction, to ensure that each project milestone is a definitive celebration of our client’s vision for their home, workspace, or brand identity. Our broad spectrum of industry specialties includes interior design, lighting design, industrial design, architectural integration, styling, custom furniture, furniture procurement, and creative brand solutions.

Sawa Design Studio operates on the principle that beauty and function are the cornerstones of great design. Beyond that, our philosophy on design is simple: People should enjoy it. We strive to create spaces that transcend the boundaries of tradition, style and taste; to give life to environments that celebrate form, function, and above all, comfort. We believe that great design speaks a universal language and that the flow and impact of a living and working environment is influential and ubiquitous. As such, our work is rooted in quality custom design and the timeless aesthetic of functional refinement.

THE PEOPLE

Marie Bowman combines a smart strong foundation of residential and commercial construction practices with a passion for creative design principles to bring a fresh, intelligent and sustainable approach to interior design at Sawa Design Studio.

The fundamental elements of construction and design were instilled in Marie at an early age. Her father, a residential home builder, designed and constructed the first family home Marie knew, when she was four years old. Marie adopted her father’s passion love for construction and design, and went on to pursue her BFA in Interior Design at Sarasota’s Ringling College of Art + Design.

Today, Marie brings more than twelve years of professional experience in design and construction to the table. She has worked with some of the top design firms in the Sarasota area and is on her way to being recognized as one of the area’s top licensed design professionals. Marie is an Allied member of the American Society of Interior Design (ASID), and her most recent achievement involves sitting for the NCIDQ exam.

Marie is also accredited as a LEED AP with Specialty in Interior Design and Construction, which enables her to implement green practices and sustainable design solutions in any type of project. She approaches the practice of construction and design with the belief that great, timeless design should be built on a foundation of sustainable practices that work in concert with the environment. Marie believes that a successful built environment should not be harmful to the earth, but should instead relate to its natural surroundings in harmony.

Marie also brings an extensive knowledge of current furniture and product trends that can help complement any project. She has successfully streamlined the furniture procurement process at Sawa Design Studio, and is able assist clients in sourcing the very best products for their projects at the best value.

A true design enthusiast, Marie considers herself a lifelong student of the ever-changing schools of design technique, construction and technology, and she enjoys the unique challenges that are presented with new each new project. She works alongside clients to create tangible environments from the blueprint of their visions and dreams, giving special consideration to function, comfort and aesthetics in every stage of the design process, from conception to construction project completion. By putting her talents to use assisting clients in creating beautiful interiors in which to live, work and play, Marie helps her clients maximize their investments, as well as their productivity levels, health and overall quality of life.

Bowman came to Sarasota in 1986 and is passionate about the community where she grew up. She enjoys being active in giving back to her community through various service projects and community events. Marie is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Sarasota, and is involved in event-planning committees for the Humane Society of Sarasota County. Marie also supports various nonprofit organizations including Habitat for Humanity and the Boys & Girls Club.
